About Knife Crime and youth unemployment
Knife crime is a youth crisis. With over 50,500 offences last year, shockingly, 18% of offenders are aged 10-17.
This violence is concentrated in areas with high youth unemployment. Where legitimate opportunities vanish, the illegal economy grows. For many young people, carrying a knife becomes a misguided response to a lack of jobs, hope, and safe spaces.
Tackling this isn't just about policing; it's about investment. To build safer streets, we must first build futures young people can believe in.
